Individual Based Modelling in an Explicitly Spatio-temporal Ecosystem

We present an individual based model of an abstract plant–herbivore system developed using an object oriented paradigm. The model is used to produce population time series under spatially extended and non-extended conditions and these series are subjected to spectral power analysis. The results of this analysis in respect of red and blue shifts are discussed in the context of those produced by real systems and mathematical models in the chaotic realm.
